I met John Romano at the Wine Connextion in North Andover during the store’s fourth anniversary celebration on Oct. 26. He’s been the Martingnetti wine distribution company for 26 years and currently manages six divisions in key retail stores. He knows his wine, and has been sampling products since 1983 to find the best value for his customers. During the summer, John visited a bunch of wineries in California, including one of Napa Valley’s most famous, Caymus Vineyard’s owned by Chuck Wagner. John got to have his photo taken next to a very special — and humongous — bottle of Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon. As pictured, John is standing next to the bottle which contains 570 liters of the vineyard’s special selection Cabernet, or 760 regular bottles. The glass alone costs $50,000, according to Romano, and the value of the wine is $130,000. Only two bottles were made, one for a fund-raiser in Napa Vallley, and the other to be consumed in 8 years on chuck Wagner’s 70th birthday!

My first question to Romano was: How will they get the wine out of the bottle? He said they’ll pump it out into bottles that will be served at the party. I hope I’m on the guest list!
